Have you set a few resolutions to improve your lifestyle this year? Whether you are preparing for retirement or you are already enjoying time away from work, right now is a great opportunity for you to consider the changes that are needed to maximize your lifestyle.

You just retired and you keep yourself busy in that initial 6 to 12 month honeymoon period.  After that glow of not having a working career in place starts to fade, it is now time to seek adventurous new activities.   Stretch those limits of your comfort zone.  Here are a few goals that you might set for the New Year:

Go Somewhere New

Traveling is a big perk of retirement. You have the freedom to explore the world and see new destinations that you have always dreamed of visiting. Set a goal to visit at least one new destination this year to mark something off your bucket list.

Spend More Time with Family

Are you optimizing family time during retirement? Set a schedule so that you can spend time with all of your children and grandchildren. It might take some effort to travel to other states, but it is worth the time and money to build these relationships.

Start a New Hobby

Have you always wanted to learn golf or take up salsa dancing? There’s no reason to delay your new hobby! Find a local class where you can learn the skill and make friends at the same time. Many people find that they are more satisfied with their retirement lifestyle when they have regular hobbies or activities to enjoy.

Balance Your Diet

As health problems start to creep in, it is more important than ever to make sure that you are supporting your body with good nutrition. Eat a variety of fruits and vegetables, as well as lean protein to ensure that you have the right vitamins and minerals that are needed. It is nice to enjoy dessert now and then, but remember that your metabolism is slowing down. If you are going to have a sweet treat, then it’s a good idea to limit your portion size.
